I think I saw a post saying you'd got this book - "Mythical Beasts of Japan: From Evil Creatures to Sacred Beings" - how is it? Would you recommend it? Is it all illustrations? Thanks.
yeah i have it! it’s full of illustrations and has just a few pages of information (japanese and english) at the beginning and somewhere in the middle. at the end of the book is the english info about artists, size ect.
the illustrations (very good quality) show mostly animals like chinese lion, chinese unicorn, chinese phoenix, white elephant, tiger, dragon ect. theres some buddhist stuff as well if theres an animal on it. then some oni, raijin and fujin, yokai stuff and other myths and monsters of japanese history. But most of the time not the whole painting/illustration. the book concentrates more on details than the whole drawing. so prob. the only little negative point if you want to see the whole thing.
so, if your into this stuff alot it’s def. worth buying it! I bought it because a) i have a huge interest in all those mythical creatures, b) love japanese art and c) i like drawing that kind of stuff too, so it’s a good inspiration for me to have it.
also about to scan more of it but its hard to scan some shit ‘cause I’m afraid of some pages will come off because japs dun know how to make good books. I had this problem with my deg book, after flipping throu it 3 times i had some pages in my hands, so that’s why im really careful with this one now.
